Although your crown covers the part of your tooth above the gums, there is still a small area around the edges of your restoration that can collect plaque. It’s essential to floss and brush around your new crown daily, so that you can prevent unwanted decay from forming under the cap.
The Treatment Process
Most crown treatments require two separate visits to our dental office in The Villages. During the first appointment, Dr. Price will numb and prep the tooth being treated, so that there’s room for a crown to slip over the top of it without affecting your bite. Once everything is prepared, we’ll take an impression for our lab to use in the custom crown fabrication process. Since porcelain crowns come in a variety of different shades, we use a special guide to select the best hue to match your adjacent teeth.
While your permanent crown is being designed, you’ll wear a temporary version that guards your tooth against any sensitivity. About two weeks later, you’ll come back to our office to have the permanent crown bonded in place.
